However, BCCI (The Board of Control for Cricket in India) present Sourav Ganguly has recently made a statement under which ‘IPL 2021 matches will not move from Mumbai.’

The city already looked to be gripped by the spread of coronavirus. People in Mumbai also have to follow the strict curbs and restrictions set by the Maharashtra government due to Covid-19. In order to respect the feelings of the sport lovers, the BCCI president has recently declared that the IPL 2021 matches in Mumbai will occur as per the schedule.

"The IPL matches will be held in Mumbai," said Ganguly in a short interview given to The Telegraph.

Sourav further cleared. “Once you are in a bubble nothing happens. Even in the UAE last season, there were a few such incidents in the lead-up to the event but once the tournament started everything was fine. “We have got the necessary permission and assurances from the state government to conduct matches there. Mumbai will be hosting only ten matches between April 10 to 25 and there will be nothing to worry inside the bio-bubble. We are in a well-secured set-up and the players and support staff will be safe,” Sourav further added.

All of the four teams including Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capital, Punjab Kings and Chennai Super Kings who will begin their Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign have already marked their presence on the land of Mumbai. Five-star properties have been booked for the stay of these players.

The Maharashtra government declared a night curfew in the state along with a strict lockdown under which people will only be allowed to go outside during the emergency over the next weekend from Friday 8 pm to Monday 7 PM. As per the new rules, five or more people cannot be gathered at a one place throughout the day from 8 pm to 7 am on multiple locations including any public areas. Bars, restaurants and malls will be closed during this time whereas essential services and home delivery options will be permitted.
